Abstract

In the late twentieth century, dissatisfaction with historical-critical methods of interpreting scripture among evangelical Protestants and Catholics led to the emergence and steady growth of the 'theological interpretation of scripture'. This discipline has drawn together biblical scholars and systematic theologians - notably Ellen Davis, Stephen Fowl, Richard Hays, Kevin Vanhoozer and John Webster - to reconsider biblical hermeneutics in ways that address the ecclesial context of interpretation and the question of divine authorship
